Book: Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides

Today finished Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides. It is longer than most books I choose to read. It was first recommended by Barry and he mentioned it was a Pulitzer Prize winner about Detroit. Because I have lived in Michigan for several years, and because I am also an immigrant, I can relate to some of the stories. It is indeed a novel of epic scale. The time span is three generations. It is difficult to say what this book is about, beacuse there is almost everything in the book--history, geography, war, riot, family, romance, love, religion, culture, politics, race, gender, sex, and more. I can't say I love the narratives 100% but the stories are truly captivating and the story telling is fluid. I've learned that to tell a good story, one must not be afraid of employing the usual story telling techniques, especially temporary suspense.
